Hello, I send warm greetings to you.
As you asked me to tell you more about my work at Kakoko Orphans and Needy Nursery School; I am a young boy, 18 year old, and I completed tourism and hotel management certificate at Lake Bunyonyi Christian Community Vocational School in 2011. After the certificate, I was requested to do my industrial training at Bunyonyi Safaris Resort where i spent three months on training without any payment, but due to my hard working i was given an opportunity to serve in their hotel as receptionist at the same time cashier. And per now i have got five months experience.
As I understood how I was suffering because of lack of school fees, I found the same with my fellow community of young brothers and sisters, especially the orphans and needy children.
I was forced to convince my fellow community members to start up nursery school for these children, and they were agreed with my plan. From then we started with 64 children, 36 of them were orphans, because their parents were affected by HIV/AIDS. The other children were mistreated by their guardians. We started school by using an damaged church with no windows and doors. The children were taught by one teacher and every children was paying 5,000 for teacher and chalks. Still we found this difficult to some of the children to pay this amount. We made Little beat stop but, with the glory of God we got some merciful volunteers who helped us with some money that we used to start up a small building with two class rooms and one office. Due to lack of enough money the building is now still unfinished.
The project’s mission:
Our mission is to rescue children who are on the verge of losing their lives and their education. Young people are born in villages with great academic potential to contribute to their community and to the world, but very few get the opportunity. Worse still, many children are at risk because of various tropical diseases combined with a lack of resources for adequate treatment. Our children need education on health practises, actual medical help, school fees, uniform, foot ware and many others.
The goals of this project are:
• to emphasise education for orphans and vulnerable children.
• to teach basic hygiene and the importance of sanitation.
• to improve the talents of the children and help them to appreciate their culture and realise the importance of education through training them in music, dance and drama.
• to improve moral and spiritual values of life.
• to improve unity among orphans and needy children.
• to provide health education on AIDS control measure.
• to save the love of fellow young children.
• to let the orphans feel like other children of rich people.
Current number of orphans:
We now have 72 children were by 35 are boys and 37 are girls.
39 of them are orphans and 33 are needy children.
Needs of the orphans:
Pens, pencils, books, uniforms, school fees, foot ware, bedding, friends, football, new life, teachers, etc.
Needs of the school:
Class rooms, chalk boards, teachers and many others.
I would like to let you know that we would also like to start up new projects that can help these children to acquire other skills. These projects includes:
• Farming
• Rearing rabbits
• Beekeeping
And many others like handwork e.g. making baskets and weaving many other things, but this is still in the plan.
Thank you very much, and wishing you a nice day
